SY745 - Finger Enrolment Guide

This document describes the process of enrolling the finger templates for all the employees within an organisation on the terminal SY-745
All employees must exists and be active within personnel on Synergy Workforce prior to any finger enrolment.
 
1. Enrol Finger Template

      Press FP function Key on the Terminal.



       Screen Changes to Enrol Mode



      Insert the Employee/Badge number  of an employee and press Enter key.

      Terminal will ask an employee to place their finger on the scanner
 
 
      Place finger and keep it on the scanner until the light above goes green and the quality reaches 80% or above
 
Try to achieve Quality = 80% and above for better results.
      After successful enrolment, the unit will go back to Enrol Screen.

      At this stage another employee can be enrolled at the terminal.

      Press IN Key to exit from Enrol Mode.

      It is recommend, while the employee is still present at the clock, the manager tests the employee’s new fingerprint template.

      The employee should be asked to test clock, at least five times, to prove the integrity of the fingerprint template stored in the clock.
 
2. Fingerprinting Techniques
 
    The operator will find the vast majority of employee’s will not present any problems in providing fingerprint templates.  However there are always exceptions to the rule! 
 
    Quality and Content?
 
    Quality refers to the clarity of the scanned fingerprint. 
    The quality to aim for is 80% or more, the higher the percentage reading, the clearer the image, the better the quality. 
    Content refers to the positioning and detail in the scanned print.
    The content to aim for is 80% or more, the higher the percentage reading, the closer the fingerprint will be to the centre of the scan, the finer the ridge details the better the content. 
 
    Fingerprints – Synel’s Top Ten Tips
 
            1. The first time an employee is asked to present their finger to a clock for scanning, it is often in the company of their peers. 
                They may be nervous.  -  Allow the employee to practice finger positioning at the clock before the actual enrolment.
 
            2. Advise them not to use their thumbs or little fingers - as they are awkward to position consistently on the scanner.
 
            3. The ridge lock, sited just below the scanner window, is designed to be a guide for the final finger joint just before the finger tip. 
                This works well with most employees, however some may have extremely long fingers. - In such circumstances the objective should be to locate the centre of the fingerprint squarely in the centre of the                        scanner window.
 
            4. Advise the employee not to present a fist with one projecting finger.  -  All fingers should be held out straight, to avoid creating an angle between the enrolled finger and the scanner’s surface.
 
            5. Advise the employee to press firmly, but gently on the scanner’s window. – Excessive pressure will blur their fingerprint.
 
            6. Ask the user to make sure their finger is in contact with the scanner’s drive ring. - Failure to do so will cause an error message, “No finger detected!”
 
            7. Make sure the employee uses the same finger for verification as they used for enrolment. – Some employee’s have been known to forget which finger they used to enrol with.
 
            8. Make sure the employee uses the same pin number for verification as they used for enrolment. – Some employee’s have been known to forget their pin number.
 
            9. The employee should not use a wet, dirty or oil soaked finger for scanning. – All will produce a poor image.
 
            10. If the employee’s finger is extremely dry, advise them to wipe their fingerprint across their forehead or down the side of their nose. 
                  This often provides just enough natural oil for a good clear fingerprint image. 
Remember while the employee is present, prove the integrity of the employee’s fingerprint template by inviting the employee to test clock five times.
