Cost Centre

Cost Centre allows calculating the cost within an organisation.

A cost centre is a department within an organisation that does not directly add to profit but still costs the organisation money to operate.

Cost centres only contribute to a company's profitability indirectly, unlike a profit centre, which contributes to profitability directly through its actions.

Managers of cost centres including human resources and research and development (R&D) are responsible for keeping their costs in line or below budget.



Cost Centres screen allows allocating labour/time to a specific Cost Centre.

For example, a member of staff may move between 3 nursing homes, each nursing home would be a separate cost centre so time spent at each needs to go against the budget of the relevant location.

Cost Centres also allows to cost hours worked against an hourly and/or charge rate such as supplying services to multiple clients eg. Agency Staff.



 
New Cost Centre
Click on the icon to add cost centre and fill in the required data

     General Tab

 
Code and Description are mandatory fields
      Code - Reference the cost centre and used to select at the terminal or browser.
      Description – Text describing the Centre such as its name or function
      Client Code – used to reference to external client system (optional)
      Active – Must be always ticked unless not in use
      Start and End Date of the Cost Centre (optional)
      Export Code – additional reference value for exporting (optional)
      Colour – graphical representation on reports
      Additional Code - For exporting purpose (optional)
      Linear -  (not in use)
      Hourly Rate – Value per hour worked 
      Charge Rate – The value billed to the client per hour
      Parent Level – used to identify the Centre in Hierarchy
      Address – Location for the Cost Centre (optional)
 
   Daily Templates Tab

   Tab allows to default cost centres by Daily Templates



Duplicate Cost Centre
Click on duplicate icon  to duplicate the cost centre allowing user to change minimal parameters and save it.

Edit Cost Centre
Click on edit icon  edit existing cost centre parameters.

Delete Cost Centre
Click on delete icon to delete respective cost centre.

   
System will not allow deleting Cost Centre if its currently in use or have been used in past. You may mark them as inactive instead.
Once deleted, Cost Centre and all its dependency will be lost forever. This cannot be recovered again.

Workflows

Synergy Workforce allows allocating cost centre in 3 different ways in the system

      1. By employees

           Employees can be defaulted to their individual single cost centre.
           This means no matter where and how they swipe, the hours will be always costed to their default cost centre allocated
           Default Cost centre by employees can be assigned by going into personnel record of an employee


      2. By Devices

          Each individual devices can be allocated to their respective cost centre.
          This means no matter who swipes at the device, all the swipes from that particular devices will be always allocated to nominated cost centre
          Default Cost centre by devices can be assigned by going into Menu - system setup - devices



      3. By Shift  (Daily Templates)
         
          Each individual daily template can be allocated to their respective cost centre.
          When employees are scheduled, system automatically schedule them on the cost centre assigned
          Default Cost centre by daily template can be assigned by going into Menu - work rules - daily templates
